No : 076/JPIC-OFM-E/XII/04
Subject : Reports on recent situation in Indonesia
Attachment : 1 file

Dear Rodrigo,

Pax et Bonum!

I intend this letter to inform you about our plan related with the recent disaster in Nangroe Aceh Darussallam and North Sumatera, Indonesia.

By now we have a Crisis Centre based in Jakarta, working in a network with the Franciscans Family in Indonesia, and we are going to send a team, - including myself - on this Monday. This team will collect the information needed for planning our next step, work on a capacity building for local volunteers, and together with the Capucins and the FSE sisters as the base orders of FI-JPIC they will build a Franciscans of Indonesia’s Crisis Centre in Medan. They are also meant to find the access to Aceh, Nias and Sibolga.

Learning from the recent condition, we reach the conclusion that money is what we need on the first place, in order to distribute the logistic and medicines, and also to support our Crisis Centre and the volunteers that we might send to help those in Medan, and also Aceh, Nias, and Sibolga. So, any fund raising that you might able to provide will be a great help.

Within this letter, I also enclose the recent information that we have right now. As soon as our team is here, I will be able to provide you with more information about the situation of the refugees in Medan, including –hopefully– some information of the disaster areas in Aceh, which is now closed against most civil volunteers/institutions, related to the special political situation of Aceh.

May God, the Lord of all hopes bless us all in our work for a better future of this world!

Yours Sincerely,

Fr. Saverinus Adir, OFM
Director
